Jumping the Highest Bungee in the World
I swore I would never do it. I said I would never go bungee jumping, and yet I did. Not only did I go bungee jumping, I had to jump off the highest bungee in the world. No such thing as moderation apparently...
It all started when I was planning the South Africa trip and discovered that the highest commercial bungee in the world was right on our route. Mark said that he would go bungee jumping, so I thought hell why not. If he's going to go bungee jumping, why not do the highest in the world? And so the story begins.
Up until the day before I could not decide if I was going to jump. I'm the sort of person who would spend the rest of my life wondering "what if I had jumped" had I not done it. So I managed to convince myself that I wasn't really scared of heights (yeah right) but was only really afraid of the prospect of falling to my death if things go wrong. Since they have a 100% safety record, I was alright - so I told myself....
They don't allow cameras on the bridge, so we even had to buy a CD of photos from them. Since I paid good money for them, enjoy the narrative:
Well, well, well. Yesterday I couldn't decide. Today I am first up for jumping in the group because I was the lightest. Great. Here's an occurence in life when I think, maybe light isn't so good after all...
You can see how pleased I am at the prospect of jumping...
Oh look. Now I think that having my legs tied together is the funniest thing in the world. What is a girl supposed to do? Cry or laugh? I chose the latter, so check out the pic. He assured me that it is perfectly safe...

I've been walked to the edge. Good grief it's a long way down....
This is me half jumping half being pushed. They count you down and if you don't jump they push you off. Being the first one up I didn't realise that I was secured and ready to go. No wonder I was freaking out, I thought they were throwing me off before the bungee was secured!

Teetering off the edge of the world....

And then you fall, down, down down... (no point screaming at this point)

This is possibly the 2nd worst bit. When you are dangling and waiting to be rescued.
Wahey, I've been rescued!
So I survived. It was great and I would do it again. Next time I would be more prepared and ready to leap off the edge rather than half fall off the edge because I didn't know what was happening!
But it all goes to show, fears and tribulations, all in your mind. You are only as scared as you believe yourself to be...
