Junior Flashpackers - The Beginning

Think 5* hotel,
Think beautiful suites (Penthouse, Honeymoon, etc),
Now think Junior Suite...

And that's where the "Junior" part of our title comes from. The lowest, cheapest form of flashpacking available, but flashpacking none the less...

I first read about flashpacking a few months back in a travel magazine, and was intrigued because it appeared to describe our travel lifestyle. However, more in depth research into the term showed that it was close, but we didn't quite fit the profile.

I found this today:

Evening Standards definition of the term flashpacker is “Thirty-something backpacker who does the budget hotel thing but jets around on internal flights or helicopters because they can’t be bothered with 20 hour bus trips.”

Well, to start with we are not 30 (yet), and we can't really afford the £350 per room per night hotels just yet. We do however condone suites on special occassions for a night, and have stayed in some very decent hotels. Ultimately, what we look for is maximum incremental luxury for minimal incremental price, and we are willing to search high and low for it!

We are currently in the process of planning a so-called backpacking trip to South Africa - this is what prompted me to start this blog. I do however hope to cover our previous travel adventures and romps in lovely hotels in due course.

And for the record, the "we" refers to two of us. ME = male, CHT = female (that would be yours truly) in our sign-off nick for this blog.

Happy reading, here's to the birth of a subcategory of flashpacking, Junior Flashpacking! I'm sure there are many more of you out there...
